HOW CAN CHEMICAL
PEELS IMPROVE MY SKIN?
Chemical peels may correct sun damage, clear acne,
flatten mild scarring, smooth fine wrinkles, and improve mild skin
discoloration. Dr. Stolman uses glycolic acid peels to achieve these
effects. Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that is thought
to achieve a superficial peel equal to that achieved with microdermabrasion
and certain salicylic acid peels. Unlike microdermabrasion, glycolic
acid and other alpha hydroxy acids have been shown to plump up collagen
and rejuvenate the skin.
HOW LONG
WILL IT TAKE?
Glycolic acid peels coined the phrase "lunch-time peel."
That is because most people who have the peel can return to work that day and
no one will supect a thing. You may experience slight pink or redness in the first
hour or two after treatment. One should avoid the sun after receiving this or
any skin exfoliating treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Mild
superficial peels, like glycolic acid, will be most effective if done every 3
to 4 weeks, for a total of 6 to 10 peels. Depending on the desired effect some
people may benefit from maintenance treatments every couple months.
