LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Dr. Karen R. Stolman can remove and permanently reduce unwanted hair with our state-of-the-art Cynosure Elite laser.  The laser emits gentle pulses of energy that pass through the skin directly to the hair follicles.  The energy is absorbed into the hair follicle destroying it, but without harming surrounding tissue.  We are capable of performing laser hair removal on most skin types, and our laser works best on people with darker hair.  To achieve the best hair reduction we will usually recommend at least six treatment sessions, at least a month apart.  With our special air cooling and use of soothing aloe vera gel, the laser hair removal treatment will cause only minimal discomfort.  Before we begin your laser hair removal treatments we would like you to schedule a consultation with either the nurse practitioner or Dr. Stolman to evaluate your skin type and laser hair removal needs.  At this appointment we will go over pricing, and special discounts.

LASER TREATMENT OF BROWN SPOTS

We can erase ugly brown spots on your face, hands, arms, or chest with our Cynosure Elite laser.   The laser emits gentle pulses of energy that target directly the pigment in these brown spots, destroying them.  Most brown spots will go away with only one or two treatment sessions.  After each session you may have a scab while the treated skin is healing.  The treatment will have only minimal discomfort, similar to the sensation of a small rubber band slapping against the skin.  Prior to the start of treatment we would like you to schedule a consultation with either the nurse practitioner or Dr. Stolman to evaluate your skin type and pricing.

LASER FACIAL FOR WRINKLES AND BROWN SPOTS

We can remove benign brown spots, redness, freckles, improve texture, and smooth fine wrinkles on the face with our Cynosure Elite laser facial.  We usually recommend several (3-6) treatment sessions, each 15-20 minutes long, one month apart.  After each treatment you will be able to return to normal activity immediately, other than we recommend sunscreen or sun avoidance.  The laser emits gentle pulses of energy that target the red and brown spots, and stimulates collagen production for smoothing our fine wrinkles.  The overlying skin is not injured.  Prior to the start of your treatment we would like you to schedule a brief consultation with either the nurse practitioner or Dr. Stolman to evaluate your skin type and pricing.

V-BEAM LASER TREATMENTS FOR VASCULAR SKIN LESIONS

Dr. Stolman is pleased to offer treatment of benign vascular lesions with the Candela Vbeam laser. Some examples of cosmetic skin problems that can be improved with this laser are the redness and telangiectasias associated with rosacea, pink or red scars, port wine stains, angiomas, redness of neck from sun damage (poikiloderma of Civatte), and small leg veins that did not resolve with sclerotherapy. In addition, Dr.Stolman may recommend this laser treatment for stubborn hand and foot warts.

Commonly Asked Questions about the Vbeam Laser

How much does it cost?

The cost of cosmetic treatments are based on either square centimeter area or treatment or number of laser pulses per session required. This will be discussed during your evaluation with Dr. Stolman.

How does the laser work?

Sclerotherapy is capable of targeting only the small veins that are present at the time of treatment, but does not prevent the development of new veins in a person with that tendency. While there may be a long term disappearance of treated veins, new veins could develop in the susceptible person.

IS IT SAFE? CAN ANYONE GET SCLEROTHERAPY?

The Vbeam pulsed dye laser works by generating a gentle burst of light that is specifically absorbed by the blood vessels in the dermis at the treatment site. The blood vessels coagulate and then are reabsorbed by the body as part of the natural healing process.

Is it painful?

The Vbeam has a special epidermal cooling system, which sprays a cool mist onto the skin before each laser pulse, increasing patient’s comfort. Some patients may feel slight discomfort associated with the laser pulse, which has been described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin.

Are there any possible risks or side effects?

The Vbeam laser has been in use for many years, and is very popular nationwide because of its consistent safety and minimal side effects. Some patient’s may have abruise (purpura), redness, and swelling at the treatment site. These side effects are usually short-lived and resolve within a few days. Permanent side effects such as scarring are rare.

Do I need to do anything before the procedure?

It is advised to avoid the sun before the treatment and during any staged treatment. Patients who are tanned or sunburn will need to re-schedule their treatment session. If you have questions about proper sun protection, please ask Dr. Stolman at your appointment.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time varies depending on the size of the treatment area. A small spot may take five minutes, whereas rosacea full facial treatment may take 20 minutes ormore.
